oil price INCREASE...!!! crucify Petronas?!
okay... this post (Italic) is actually written by a friend of mine and he able to write all this things down (took more than half an hour according to him) because he is working with Petronas (scholarship from UTP) right now and this is his comment and defences ^.^ I think it worth for me to post this.... i know it is another long post BUT really worth reading.
ok...i guess the angst u have against petronas is because of lack of knowledge
it is important that you can separate your hatred of government's move to increase the price and petronas.
getting the facts right.
Petronas is not the main price-up company.
as in any free market, its by supply and demand
if demand is high and supply is low, price of commodity goes up.
same here with oil and gas
in malaysia it is wrong to assume petronas is the only player
exxon is the bigger player in terengganu, shell in sarawak and murphyoil in sabah waters
and these players, are world players and they sell the oil at market price
so if the world price for oil is USD 1.50, then they sell USD 1.50. the balanced is taken up by governmentGeneral examples given by public and thru blogs
1. Fisherman goes fishing. Assume negligible operating cost. Fisherman caught fish, and at that time fish sells at RM15. fisherman goes to market and sell at RM10. Fisherman loses RM5, BUT instead...fisherman actually earns RM10 and not losing anything.
The flaw: this example does not take in the CAPEX, the capital expenditure, which is very high. Now the easily accessible oil is gone from the world, although there are still alot of oil in the world, they are in smaller pockets, hard to extract and hard to process oil or in deep water. To drill a well now cost RM100million or more. The success rate of drilling 1 well is less than 15%. second, this fisherman is actually owner of the market as well. For every fish other fisherman sells for RM10 in his market, he has to give RM5 to the other fisherman.
2. Take half of PETRONAS profit and give to the rakyat.
The flaw: Like i explained just now, although PETRONAS profit is RM70b last yr. Most of it will go into exploration of new oil source and in operation cost. Although the price of oil doubled from last yr, the operating course tripled! From barges, vessels, drilling equipments...at least triple. If we do not have the money, we cant invest in the future resources. We will die a natural death. Oil industry always have to take a long term view and not a knee jerk view. From a country giving a block (piece of land or sea) for a oil company to producing the 1st oil, the simplest easier fields will take 5 yrs. others, 10-15yrs. if we stop now, we could not catch up 10 yrs from now.
3. Stop spending so much money in failed exploration, wasting our money.
The flaw: Like i said before, the success to find oil now is less than 15%. Why so low? because
1st. the oil is deep in the sea, and under lots of rock. Now we have to go to 1000m water depth, and then 3000m of rock to reach oil source. How can we confirm got oil? we did all the surveys we want, we did all the scans we can. but these are under huge amount of water and rock! We got criteria that a survey study can determine potential oil source, but nothing is for sure until we reached it. and another misconception of oil and gas is they are like a pool of water. u go in and u suck them out. Hydrocarbon are trapped in small capilaries in sand, and they come out by pressure difference between the reservoir and the sea surface. We have to inject chemicals, water, gas into the well...just to get 30-40% of the total oil up to surface.
2nd. We cant stop overseas exploration. Malaysian oil can only last for 20 more yrs. even now our own oil contribute to only 50% of our output. the rest are from overseas. we need to expand to survive. and why we went to myanmar and sudan? petronas is the most community-serviced minded oil and gas company. so many schools, hospitals, libraries exists in the country we operate in.
Lemme give another example. The jail officer who whip prisoners. Its a bad job cos u hurt ppl, but i rather have a kind-hearted person wif conscience to do it, so he does not apply unnecessary strong pressure, he does not cross the whipping lines etc etc. so instead of other companies, i rather have petronas in these contries to do what we can for the citizen. we do not involve ourselves in their politics. if we pull out, who will suffer? the citizen rite? look at myanmar, when the government resist outside help, who suffers? civilians.
4. Boikot PETRONAS, but other companies?
The flaw: Petronas pays the most tax to the government. Shell, Exxonmobil, and others pay much less. So if u boikot petronas, government get less revenue, so less ability to support subsidy, and REAL market price will come into play. (apply ur economics theory) since petronas dun get as much business, it has less capability to develop, and will die a natural death once its fields life ended.
5. Petronas are overstaffed and overpaid
The flaw: petronas is seriously lacking staffs. we do not have enough ppl and we are stretched. Most of our staffs are young (less than 5 yrs experience) and the seniors are having a hard time to train us. We are hugely underpaid, peers in other companies are earning at least double us. even government engineers earn more than us now, including COLA, allowances. We do not get allowances, we do not get car/house allowance and COLA. we do not get OT. Petronas made the right move in taking best SPM students under scholarship. but if we are paid little, we leave for better paying companies. Who is left? u pay peanuts, u get monkeys. so when its best brains leave, petronas cant compete with other companies. either it die off, or it takes in experts who are paid at least 5 times our salary. This is the most globalised industry. ppl move with projects everywhere. in my office now, in another oil company. we have approx 30% semenanjung peeps, 30% sabahan and sarawakian. the rest are american, chinese, indian, norwegian, brits, pakistani, swedes, french. The last wave of middle eastern companies coming to take petronas staffs, we lost nearly ALL senior engineers and managers. now the second wave is coming, cos of their expansion and the completion of their huge plants. wanna bet how many engineers and managers will go?
6. Stop selling subsidized gas to other companies and process them ourselves for local use.
Malaysia is 1 of the world leading liquified natural gas producers. we are the world leaders. We do not subsized any countries. but gas is hard to sell because they are in vapour form. we have to know who will buy them. then only we can plan the processiing, the pipeline, and the LNG plants. unlike oil, we can store them in barrels and ship them anytime to customers. CAPEX and OPEX of gas is so high, we need to sell them longterm to buyers before developing gas fields. thats why they are priced low now, cos the contract is signed at least 5 yrs ago. Petronas subsidized for IPP, so that electricity bills are low. Petronas sells at least at half price, and petronas swallow up the subsidy.

Comment on Minister using Public Transport
Okay first of all wanna specify that I am here not to comment about politic but is just my view on what Y.B. Dato' Shahrir, our minister which handle internal trade development and protect consumer rights department (Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna), have to say about the public transport that government has provided to the people for the last 50 years of independence.
According to Sin Chew Daily’s report, he tried to taking the train to work and in these two day of using public transport to work, he came to a conclusion "what the people said in the newspapers are true all this while" because he himself find it inconvenient.
As a minister, I am glad that he took the effort to do this (experience) himself and discovered lot of problems that we consumers have been facing since like god-knows-when and the newspapers been reporting all these inconvenience and complains for like also god-knows-when and how many thousand million time and the media sometimes even asked random public to comment on public transportation and they were aired on tv.
According to Sin Chew "部长亲自体验，发现民众的批评不是无的放矢"。 Seriously, they dunno about how we feel about the public transport provided in malaysia all this while? they think we are happy and satisfy with it all this while? they think it is sufficient and at least a good grade for our public transport? people's knowledge improves by the day and education keeps improving, information can be excess easily all thanks to advance of technology. But our public transport is only just ‘nice passing grade’ (maybe even ‘fail’ due to the drivers’ attitude and timing and all other factors) and the

hmm...another thing is that we all know that our car windows, there is this certain standard that we need to follow or else I think you are like god-damn free and got nothing else better to do because I am sure the police will stop you to one side of the road and have a short and sweet conversation with you (in Malay language,we said - tak ada benda buat, sendiri cari pasal...!!!) but do you think all those ministers’ cars with dark tinted windows follow the standard?! (may be they do follow the "standard"... i wont know... but it looks like very the dark lo...)
anyway... hope this time after Y.B. experienced the public transport and know what is the problems that we public face daily. Hope he will do something about it instead of just experiencing it and comment; and then say will discuss with the transport minister and will get a solution but this will remain only at PR level (public relation).

Management Game in MIMS
okay... dun wanna talk about sad sad stuff today... (although feel a little emo n no mood today) thanks waikit call me out for mamak if not i think by time i finish my dvd i may go crazy... (maybe i wont.... haha... never know)
anyway last month after my exam, me waikit nic and uy went for a competition in Jalan Ampang. it is some management game which all the 4 of us have no idea what it is gonna be and one night before the competition 3 out of 4 of us still hanging out at mamak late night. it is so demotivating to do this ambassador job (as a scholarship student) especially right after your exam n it is a weekend (friday) suppose to enjoy instead of go for a battle RITE?!?!
anyway... i reach college at about 8.30am cause follow my dad's working hour. then meet the metro IT fella, talk some nonsense for like an hour outside the computer lab because the lady suppose to open the door late... then meet another Curtin senior also. (okay la...at less someone to talk to since i am bored too)
at 9 something to 10am waikit and nic come n then visit me in the computer lab while i blogging. then after all 4 of us gather we meet shah and we left metro to the competition.
when we reach there the first thing we hear is "hi, u guys are late" (LOL) actually we did that on purpose, i think...?! (LOL) as yee yee (from SAO, student affair office) said all the opening speechs can skip and the main registration will only starts at 10.30am to 10.45am. okay wat we reach there at 10.45am sharp... ^.^ *clap clap clap* (nicely done shah...) (i am happy to skip all the boring part)
so we started briefing by mr...xxx (shit...wat is his name again?!) anyway he is a nice fella...
during briefing the only thing i know is that my heart is praying hard that he dun turn n look at the area i and nic sitting because we both practically sleeping. luckily waikit and uy is doing their part and taking down all the important stuff and understand how it work (i not sure how many percent they understand but at less it helps after the game starts)
the game is hard...really hard and i seriously and honestly find it stressful....!!! just imagine u eat, discuss, make decision and rest at the god damn chair and fighting with time and keep thinking about next step to do in order to get high profit and dun make lost... FULL OF BULL SHIT.......!!! (i know how CEO feels now... SWT....!!!)
towards the end i feel really stress and not fun at all this game, really wanna go back home (another reason wanna go back is all our luggage is in Subang because there are some misundestand where we were told that we will be staying at holiday villa subang so we left our bags at metropolitan >.<) so the game ended before 4pm (if not mistaken) then we waited at the concourse till dinner time. in between the OC took some video asking how we feel about the game and all then have some stoning period (hmm...maybe most of the time) the only feeling i had after the game is TIRED and HOME...!!!
after the result announces, we know that we get to go in to semi finals and i have mix feeling. back to the score part, we were like just nice to get in semi finals. we scored last among all 8 teams which manage to get in semi finals. (so tomorrow very high chance we get kick out) so stay at the apartment next to MIMS at Jalan Ampang. the apartment design change our mind to overnight in Holiday Villa in Jalan Ampang (awesome place, nice place and beautiful place... i love it...!!!) instead of go back home and sleep (since we need to go back subang must as well go home if the place we stay SUCK)
okay...next day the game (competition) starts at 8am and then this time we are fighting for the top 4 team which get the highest yield. hmm... we were pretty relax with the whole game... we hand in our decision fast, chill a lot, rest a lot and i am a bit blur when my watch hit 3pm (nap time).
(last night we drink while playing poker cards and i bad at bottom sap and i kong off)
like i said before this we were expecting to go home by today because yesterday we did like bad and dun really know what the game all about.
we get into finals and when the result review we score the highest out of the 8 teams and our score is like extremely high, as in really high... the team who is at second place have like 5.5 yield gap with us and we were leading since the very first around of the game....!!! *speechless* *WOAH.......*
so we have to stay in holiday villa for another night since we manage to get into FINALS. *out of expectation* like the previous night we drink again with poker cards and then watch a movie till like 3am on TV3.
then sleep and wake up for game again. oh ya...almost forgotten we had dinner with laipeng after the game end (the OC for the event). she we suprise with our performance and didnt expect us to get in finals.
on 3rd day, i had like arguements and conflic with the 3 guys when making decision and then after that i was told to shut up by some ppl (ask me personally, maybe i will tell... lol) then we sort of screw the game towards the end since we realised we not gonna win it anymore... so must as well throw the game.... in the end the result came out and we really throw our game like we expected and one of the TAR college team win the prize >.<
PS: (i hate one cocky fella in TAR college team, he is a basket...!!! lucky his team didn't win)

在电视机旁的每一个人都会说“干吗她不选那个对她最好，最体贴，最风度翩翩的那个男的呢？”
有时候这个道理每一个女孩都知道，但真正能做到的又有多少个呢？
当女孩面对好像刚才我说的故事时，有多少个你们会很明智的选那个风度翩翩的那一位呢？
为何我们会那么笨选择那个只会给你痛，哭，泪，累的坏蛋呢？
我一点都不好受，好无奈，好想放弃，不想理会，好想看看旁边其它的选择，好想静静的思考，默默地反省。因为我真的不知道自己在干吗了。。。。。。？
只从我结束上一段感情后，在我眼里就开始看不见好的男生，每一个都不是好东西。。。然后渐渐地对男生，对感情失去方向感。。。
现在我只有三个字。。。 “我好累”

just now i was thinking to use google to translate the whole god damn thing but.... it came out some shit which sounded so damn funny and horrible. but of cause now i have to do it myself but i wont explain each and every words or else i am now a teacher or translator instead of a blogger ^.^
PS: the translate version is not very detailed. if curious about what i wrote in chinese try get someone translate it for you or guess it yourself la... LOL
